Scope

Fine Timber Tasmania Inc (FTT), the not-for-profit association owning the license and branding system that form the chain of custody known as Fine Timber Tasmania, has determined that the scope of a formal Fine Timber custody management system is limited to the administration and promotion of a chain of custody for legally sourced Tasmanian Fine Timber originating from a Defined Forest Area (DFA) that has been certified to the Australian Forestry Standard or other scheme recognised as substantively equivalent to AFS. The species of Fine Timber that is covered by the scope will be outlined in Schedule 1.

Licensees commit:

to only using Tasmanian Fine Timber from a DFA certified to the AFS or sourced from other schemes recognised as substantively equivalent to AFS;

to communicating information as to the source of their Tasmanian Fine Timber to their customers;

to ensure that manufacturing facility meets or exceeds all applicable laws covering health and safety of personnel;

to ensuring compliance with applicable laws and/or regulations covering environmental impacts of the manufacturing facility.

The system has been developed to meet the requirements of the Australian Standard Chain of Custody for certified wood and forest products AS4707 - Appendix B Physical Segregation and/or marking of raw materials. Prior to changing from this approach, the organisation will seek approval from the Certification Body.

The chain of custody system does not infer environmental forest certification unless the wood comes from a DFA certified under the Australian Forestry Standard, [AS4708 (Int)-2003] or from other schemes recognised as substantively equivalent to AFS.
